IV is you me and everybody else. We saw since morning how people are trying to scuttle the idea by giving various and weird reasonings. What is important is writing them. And telling them the gravity and urgency of the situations. words like bonded should be bolded as the truth is 'Yes' in this free American Society we have lived a 'bonded' life...
mirage, I am not trying to turn down this effort. In Fact, I have sent at least 50 letters as part of IV campaigns and I have written so many on my own. All I was saying that we need a professional letter that will have better impact. Once we have the letter ready, I will be the first one to send it out.

Actually it was lost by only 2 votes. Only 95 Senators voted and hence 57 votes would have been enough to carry it through. Really Sad. :(

My attorney sent the application to TSC on Aug 14th. Now its with NSC with a receipt date of Oct 9th. Received EAD for my wife. But haven't received AP for either of us.

Lacris, I went to SSA office to get SSN rejection letter for my wife as she is on h4 (DMV needs rejection letter to renew the license) and SSA Agent checked the passport of my wife for the expiry date, May be they are checking the expiry date now a days, I think you need to renew the passport and go to SSA office for SSN, But I may be wrong

Did anyone get a SSN with their passport expired?
My passport expired in April and the Romanian embassy doesn't renew passports for people who are not US permanent residents or citizens. What I could do was to make a letter of representation for someone in my country, get it certified at one of the Romanian consulates and send all the ORIGINAL documents thru mail in Romania. Since I'm a full time graduate student, even finding time to go to the nearest consulate was almost impossible. I was also worried that we might be asked to show up for an interview and would not have documents like passport or marriage certificate in hand. I talked to the lawyer and she said that if I don't plan to travel abroad, not having a valid passport is ok.
Yesterday I got the plastic card and today I went to apply for a SSN. The lady I talked to refused to take my application, saying that my Romanian passport is considered an "immigration document" and until I have an unexpired one, I should not try to get a SSN. Call me crazy, but since I am a permanent resident doesn't it mean I don't have to leave USA unless I want to???? And even more, how can a document issued by a foreign country be an immigration document, since I'm not applying for SSN based on a visa stamped in that passport.
If anyone went thru the same situation or has some advice for me, please answer.

When ever you start working on EAD (filled I-9 form??)..then technically H1-B status will get invalidated...

Another thing. There was a suggestion of starting "free coaching classes" for kids as a volunteer service. Excellent Idea IFFF and ONLY IFFF we are doing it With the actual intent of providing education to the under-priviledged. Otherwise, once immigrants' voices are heard, and relief comes through, guess what will happen? These coaching classes will stop dead in their tracks. This will attract NEGATIVE publicity sending a message that the so called "Volunteer Effort" was nothing but a PUBLICITY STUNT.
one way to demonstrate our worth is for our employers to come out and speak loudly. i am trying to get my employer to do exactly this. but we need new ideas.

Until the CIR becomes law, you can still file LC and 140. So do not assume anything.
Once your labor is cleared, you can get one year extn. If possible, try to file that one year extn before this becomes a law. Still this may not solve the issue other than postponing the issue.
So basically if this becomes law..Iam screwed..I am in my 30 day waiting period to file for my Labor in Jul-07 & want to get a 7th year extention in June-08. Am I reading it right?

My husbands DL expires on Oct 1st, 2007. The North Carolina DMV insists that he should have a valid H1B visa stamp in his PP in order to renew the license. He does have a valid H1B extension with I-94 at the bottom till Oct.2009. We dont want to leave the country as we are filing for our I-485's.
Any one in NC have any suggestions?

True, once the people realize that they are close to GC they forget all tasks and move on to the other forums (R2I or USC or whatever) there are very few who actually stay on and help add this to the fact that most of the EB3-I's got fed up with the nonsense going on (most were only looking for a sounding board to voice their dismay, instead they were reminded of the caste system). So EB2's stop working because their PD is current and EBs stop because there is little hope/chance/help. We can dissect the VB as much as we want, the fact of the matter is that EB3 as a whole and EB3 (india &China) in particular are screwed big time. There is hope in the Logfren bills but the congress seems to have other 'important' issues to discuss.
We should take the campaign to a new level move from individuals to involving groups and compaines. They have more money and power to make things move. EB3 & EB2 discussions will go on for ever, we can either decide to wallow in our sorrow or do something. Lets identify groups who can help us and write to them. Each EB should talk to his/her HR and ask them to write a letter to their congressman/Senator it will have a bigger impact.

guys, USCIS agreed to accept all the application but they do not have any visas to adjudicate the application... so they'll only enter the information in their database based on PD and when the date becomes current for the PD thats when they start processing the application... so nothing will be changed in terms of order of processing.. this change will only help us getting EAD/AP...

My point - I am going to take things in a stride, basically wait till I can - doesn't hurt me as long as I go about my daily routine.
All who are thinking of jumping the fence and giving up, one piece of advice - if you do not have kids and plan to have any in this life, please do it NOW - have them be born here (all of them) and then move on with whatever / wherever you want to go.
At least this is a gift you will be giving your kids for their lifetime and all the generations following them (remember - a US citizen's kid can be a US citizen no matter where he/she is born) - so you will be arranging US citizenship for all your great^n * grand * kids (0 <= n <= infinity) !
This is how I think about it when I do not think about MYSELF. Once the kids are born, you can flaunt their American Passports and feel happy in their well-being and security (for whatever it is worth) and move on to Canada / India / Singapore / wherever! Live happily.
And do not forget your kids can sponsor you when they are 21.
