Yes, I would agree this is good news. BUsh has already protected himself from War Crimes by passing the Torture Bill....now he wants to make sure Dems do not start setting up committees on Iraq war, tax cuts etc...he will basically protect himself now for the 2 yrs left in office.
There is talk that Bush wants to do something GREAT before his term ends; and that he would not like to be called a War PResident, I think Bush does not have teh Vision, Leadership or Intellegence to think that far out. He will think short term about protecting his turf, and it is upto the Democrats to put forth the Immigration Legislation on the table - which IV needs to push for in the new congress.

I do not see anywhere in the legislation where it says that EB1 is "more skilled and valuable" that EB2 and so on. What it does say is that the various categories require a certain amount of education and hence my point! I am not insecure but I AM frustrated at your arrogance. Look before you leap and read the Immigration Act!!!!

IV core are not "Agony Uncles" or "Agony Aunts" to counsel us on our personal problems or guilt issues!
Don't get me wrong, I sympathize with those who had backpain, who were forced by the bosses etc. There is NOTHING IV CAN DO ABOUT IT (real genuine reasons). For those complaining about money, there was a thread on IV to sponsor tickets, provide accomodations etc. Why didn't you use those?

USCIS has absolutely no info about labor till the employer files a I-140 with a certified copy of LC. I would seriously doubt if that's the case, unless your old employer filed the I-140 using the 2004 labor and the I-140 was approved.
For your own good, you should get things corrected....the short term excitement may lead to more trouble later...just my 2 cents.

If its true I am having a party wow man thanks I did come to US in 1997. I do have a labor which was approved under RIR PD date 2004 but the employer refused to file I-140. Just getting the provision to file AOS when priority date is not current without the other provisions that are related to pre filing AOS like "removal of semilar\same job restriction when using EAD\AC21" is not good. Dont get me wrong I understand how much the guys who missed out on the july fiasco want to prefile AOS and get EAD but without the provision to remove the restriction of same\semilar job requirement in AC 21 it (EAD) is useless. By now everyone knows that USCIS is heavily issuing RFE or denial notices for h1b transfer and extension. It is just a matter of time before USCIS starts issuing RFE or denial notice on EAD\485 as well. The prime candidate for USCIS to kick out people using EAD\485 is the same or semilar job restriction while using EAD\AC21. If everyone gets to pre file AOS without PD restrictions then USCIS will make using EAD as difficult as using H1b. Please fight for the removal of "same\semilar job requirement in AC 21" along with prefiling AOS so that everybody gets true relief and it really becomes a win win situation, otherwise it is a waste and will speed up uscis making life miserable for EAD workers.

I had lawmaker apointment (in Rayburn building across the street from where the rally ended) after the rally. There were 10 Indians giggling at me. At first I thought they attended the rally. I was walking in their direction when their looks got weird and I realized they did not attend the rally!

Totally agree with you. I know guys who worked in production support and QA applied in EB2. At the same time people like me in positions such as Architect went with the ill-fated EB3. It is sad, but is the truth.

IMO we should first try to form a local chapter. If that doesn't work try to combine forces with nearby states like IN, OH, IL etc. to form "Mid West" Chapter ( like New England and Tri-Sate Chapters).
Co-ordination with IL chapter will be critical for us (and others too) in the coming days as Mr. "anti-legal immigration" Durbin is the senator there. We need to start acting - NOW - to convince him to drop anti-immigrant measures such as "barring H1Bs from consulting business"; instead of waiting on him to introduce his "Prevention of H1 & L1 Fraud Act" (and discuss it on IV ad nauseam without making the slightest impact)
Someone suggested even joining the illinois chapter - maybe thats the way to if there aren't many here

I totally get where you're coming from - I was in the same place also some time back. And I absolutely support dissenting voices - every organization needs a conscience. IV is no exception. So go ahead with your questions and ignore the folks trying to shut you up.
Heres why I contribute to IV -
IMHO the biggest role IV is playing right now is educating the media, politicians, administrators etc. about the hardships we're going through. The first step towards solving a problem is to get people to acknowledge there is one. And right now there are people in the administration who don't think or even know there is a problem.
Mark Bartosik's done some great work with the media. Nixtor has also been prominent here. I'm sure there are others also involved.

similarly search for nixtor, pappu etc.

If some part of the contributions make life easier for these folks - its absolutely worth it, isn't it?
And for folks who refer to this as "Donation"
Its not a donation - its a contribution.
Donation refers to a gift to a charitable organization whereas a ontribution is generally associated with a gift to a common fund or collection.
I hope this helps you somewhat to get over the hurdle of moving from a member to a contributor.
As for "donor" forums - think of them as a paid subscription (like shareware ;)). Its also one way of ensuring that anti-immigrant trolls don't get through. I do totally support this model.

You cannot open a single thread or forum without being asked for contributions these days. People are told that if they dont contribute, they are not "supporting the cause".
But the stark reality is this... If you look at the IV website to see what action/progress has been made in "the cause"....there is some vague statement about Patton Boggs and how we have this lobbyist who is educating congressmen...Who exactly? How? When? Oh those details cannot be given.
There is a link about IV in the news...the last time IV was in the news was in Sept 2007 ...19 MONTHS AGO...
Then there is a link about IV and FBI namechecks...The last update is some thread in Feb 08 and this brilliant statement from 2007 ..."IV has met officials from agencies and has raised this issue in the recent past. We have been informed that there is an effort being undertaken to significantly reduce name check backlogs in the next 6 months." SERIOUSLY?? You really expect that you can convince people to contribute based on this flimsy evidence of doing "something" that you really cant tell us ??
For those asking for money, THERE HAS NOT BEEN A SINGLE UPDATE ON ANY PROGRESS SPECIFICALLY ACHIEVED BY IV IN THE LAST YEAR AND HALF !!!
How can you justify this? Actually, you dont have to....There are many like me who will answer questions of panicked people about how to navigate the complex immigration system but until IV can provide some concrete proof of what specifically it is doing, how exactly it is spending the money and what roadmap of progress it hopes to achieve and whether it is on its way to achieving it....the money wells will continue to be dry.
And this new caste system of the DONOR forum which basically says screw you to everyone who has spent time, money or effort on IV and completely goes against the "Change for fairness and Justice" mumbo jumbo is a step in the right direction, IV needs to give way to an actual movement that actually does something and this DONOR forum concept will certainly go a long way in the marginalization of this site and community.

When M.K.Gandhi held his first rally against the British rulers(nothing personal here Franklin and Mark :) ), it did not result in immediate freedom, but was it worthless ?
It's not just India that won freedom either, don't forget USA!
