Mark, point taken but I do believe if we can raise some stink then we should. The Law firms need to realise that the country club memebership is coming at the cost of some poor sap stuck in the immigration rut and all he/ she needs is kind words and sound advice. I shall stop my ranting about Fragomen after this post.
On your other point about law firms participating. What makes you think they already do not have a member in the forums. If they read this good then the messeage has been sent across.
If approached in the right way there is a chance that big law firms will be helpful to us. The way to do this is politely, not raising a stink, with a credible number of their clients supporting us. The big law firms could act as a "force multiplier" to use a military term, only a small fraction of the community currently know about us, the big law firms and USCIS are the common connection for EB GC process, and USCIS is not about to email all their customers about us. With the right encouragement law firms might just help.
If they have members reading forums great. However, please do be civil.
I do understand the need to vent and rant sometimes. My personal guide is not to post anything that I do not want to be publicly (or legally) held to. Also a balanced constructive post is useful for all. So I place my full name in my signature.

Hi folks,
I used to work in company A where my I-140 got approved but I was laid off. Now I am with company B in a higher position and pay but B has delayed filing my PERM. As the economy is bad so I am looking to go back to A and file 485 when PD is current. I need to give a copy of H1 for transfer from B to A. Will i be needing the original H1 copy from B at any time as B gave me a copy not the original (weird).
Thanks

Good Idea, Jayram.
Having even a couple of fill time staffers will make a big difference...but will also require bigger budget.
Does any one know how much IV collets in recurring contributions? How much did we collect for the DC rally and how much did we spend?
San Jose was a local CA event planned almost spontaneously. DC was an event planned months in advance. People were offered Free ride, Free plane fare, Free food (in Gurdwaras). Yet how many participated?
I have been refraining from posting on this point, as I wouldn't like to belittle the contributions of the strong team from California and the numbers they brought to the rally.
But let's face it. CA has more EB immigrants than the next three. Look at the recent 2006 Performance report from DoL (available at Mathew Oh website). CA had 21,000+ labor petitions compared to NY - 7,000, NJ - 7,000(?) , TX - 5000. As you can see CA scores more than the next three states put together.
If 40 people participate from NY, it's as good as 120 from Cal. Percentagewise it would be the same. If 40 peope walk in Michigan ( 2000 Labor petitions) statistically it would surpass CA, percentagewise.
It's a known thing that only 5%-10% of the population participates actively in the most successful movements be it American Revolution or struggle for Indian Independence. We haven't reached that critical mass yet ( at the regional level)
There is an enthusiasm right now. But how long before the fatigue sets in? Rallies need to be minimal, held with certain strategic target and should serve some specific purpose.
Weekend rallies attracting bigger crowds is a myth. Be prepared to listen to reasons like - Shucks I have to mow the lawn, take kids to Bharatanatyam dance classes, I have relatives over for lunch etc.
With that logic if we hold rallies over the LONG weekends, we should attract bigger crowd, since people have 2-3 days to relax afterwards. And since people already plan to visit Orlando, LA etc to visit Disneyland, Universal etc., if we can hold rallies there we should attract the highest possible crowd. Do you think my idea will work?
I agree with you 100%. Question is - who'll bell the cat? Who will take the lead and sacrifice their time, family life etc. to plan, organize and conduct these?
We need a fearless leader like Aman Kapoor, who can motivate and inspire people to participate, in every state. Where can we find them?
How about taking this to the next step and hire paid fulltime staff who can
1) call people and request donations
2) organize meetings
3) stimulate the local chapters
4) promote IV
..... and the list can go on.....and do all the things necessary to convert all propects to customers.
How about having full time offices in DC? This office will run on donations.
Finally, how about instead of anonymous members make this a place where everyone has to provide their personal details etc.
Anyways, I am just ranting.

To pbojja, if you think being concerned about fraud desi companies and highlighting issues we can resolve easily (like English classes) is being disrespectful to one's fellow country men/women, then I must not have put forward my point clearly. I never said that only English speaking skills were required to be a good professional. However, they are important tools for effective communication. Not every desi IT professional in the U.S. is a developer and is in roles which do require good English speaking skills. Anyway, I didn't mean to be disrespectful to anyone.
To sri1309, I never meant to digress from existing items on IV's agenda. All I am saying is that the backlog might get cleaned up a bit if we are able to assist in weeding out fraud cases.
stuckinmuck I understand what you say but I dont understand how can you eliminate the problem with so called fraud desi companies , probally they have few hundreed at the most few thousands . In the bigger picture its a bigger issue than few thousand . How can you justify a ROW guy just did masters and working for an year get his GC under EB2 ROW . Its suppose to be employment based not education based ..
If a company hires a guy with poor English skills , they might have liked some thing else in him ...Not all Indians are same, no single individual represents a country so dont worry about poor communicating Indians around you .

Since this bill has EB based provisions and does not have controversial guest workers program, would it make more sense to support this bill if it were to be tabled on senate floor instead of Specter's bill? Especially since house is totally opposed to any bill which has a guest worker program.
Moderators and those involved with IV's lobbying firm give it a thought as this bill will be less controversial than specter's.

Dear Dr. Teli (I am sure you are a Dr. because you dont let facts or reality come in the way of your diagnosis of a situation, argument or person, only a PhD can do that)
Thank you for doing the homework on my 1 year of postings..Not even my wife pays that much attention to me, makes me feel really valuable :)
I could have told you that. I have never contributed any money to IV and probably never will. Because i dont think they are doing anything. I have, however, answered a few people's questions about AP or H4 visa (something with which i had to spend a lot of time researching). That is the extent of my "contribution". I just answered a few earnest questions to the best of my ability.
You can attack me all you want. For example, probably I am not EB2..Hmm, I thought EB2 was an employment category and not a species classification but I may be wrong...
Anyway, what happens is that whenever a new visa bulletin rolls out, there are all these posts which basically say
1. Contribute
2. We must do something
3. What is IV core doing
4. Where is VDLRAO
5. When will the injustice end
etc etc etc
I have been seeing this for the last 3 years. First things first, If you want to take action, spend 41 cents every day and send a letter to your congressman or senator everyday for 1 year....For $149 per year (365 * 0.41 not counting leap years and counting on the fact that you will mail a letter even on holidays :))
At the end of the year, at least you have something to show for what you did. With IV, you can convince people that Patton Boggs is doing all they can for you, Trust them.
I am not blaming the Core at all, they are doing whateven they can given the limited resources, time and influence they have. But, what I am blaming, is the the "holier than thou" attitude which is adopted when distinguishing between those that are the exalted DONORS and those that aren't :)
Chaanakya,
You said "Thank you for doing the homework on my 1 year of postings..Not even my wife pays that much attention to me, makes me feel really valuable :)".
He is not that partial that he leaves others. If you look at my posts, I noticed exactly the same. He appears to know everything about me :) . And I am very sure others here who raise valid points have noticed the same.
Please show some pity of this guy.He probably has no job, thinks supporting blindly gets him some points from core or someone.. He does manage a good # of greens though. Its possible he has 15 to 20 accounts in this forum and logs in with each account, gives greens to rest of them. Please excuse him. I usually dont reply to these folks.

USCIS accepts AP renewal applications 120 days in advance of expiring AP. The normal processing time for AP is approx 1-2 months (usually it is about a month). Keep in mind that the new AP which is issued will have an immediate effective date from the date of issue and the start date will not be from the expiry date of old AP. So in most cases you will end up losing some days or even months. If you do not forsee any immediate need to travel you should wait till 30-40 days prior to old AP expiry and then apply. If your travel plans are unknown and you may have to travel if an urgent situation arises, then you should apply 120-90 days in advance to make sure you have AP validity at all times. You will obviously lose some days or months... but then who says everything that USCIS does is fair :)
Dear Friend,
thanks a lot for your clear and precise reply--in both your emails. I also assume (and if you could please clarify that), that an individual also has to pat another $305 dollars during renewal application for the AP. Thanks again.

Hi,
I had invoked AC21 and informed usc thru my old attorney.
Now Frago...is filing my EAD,AP extensions and asking me to file G28 for AP and EAD only.
They agreed to keep 485 G28 as is so that old attorney will take care of it.
Do you see any issues here?
